I had planned on
digging solo today as Dave could not join me again. I gave Craig a call
because he said earlier in the week that he would be available to dig. When I
called him he was feeling a little under the weather but said he might stop by
the dig site.
I had taken a ride through the
old part of town but did not see any opportunities. I went to a spot Dave and
I had permitted and probed earlier in the year. It is not in a real old part
of town but today it would have to do. I picked one of the pits we had probed
and opened it up. The first bottle out was a Fletchers castoria, abm,Bummer. I
had it down to the three foot level when Craig showed up.He took over and in a
couple minutes had a milk on the run. When he uncovered it,it was
embossed Giddings Dairy / Racine,Wis. Cool! I had never heard of it and
Craig wasn't sure. The pit ended soon after with the milk being the best
bottle.
I asked Craig if he
wanted to open another and he was game. We picked another that felt fairly
good. This one was full of bunk jars and shingles and junk. I did pull
out a Pabst blob bottled by S.F.Gates / Racine. A few more common milks and a
pair of doll legs a crown top Kohlman and some fruit jar lids and it was over.
I said " Craig,one
more?" He agreed and we picked another. This one was four feet of
nothing! A pit full of bones and ash, void of any glass. We filled er in,packed
up and went home for some much needed rest.
Until next time.......
