I was feeling under the weather and
couldn't make it out digging today. So, I patiently waited all day for Steve to
email me with the results. He writes:
Hey Dave,
I
went to one of the houses that was "already dug" I told the lady I
had permission and that I would be in the back yard. I hit a pit along the
back lot line, the probe sailed right in. Dug! I started probing along the side
lot going towards the house. I hit a few suspicious spots close to the house.
They were shallow so I continued probing. There was a large old walnut tree in
the back corner and I hit a spot close to it that felt layered. Still I wasn't
sure so I kept probing. Then along the driveway about halfway between the back
lot line and the house a hit a good spot,or so I thought. It was shallow but
it felt like there was stuff in it. I opened it,dug down about two feet and
started pulling out colored pontiled meds! Oh wait a minute that was only in
my daydream! I did get a bunk wine a broken oil lamp a couple unembossed
bottles, an insulator and what I think are a pair of oar locks.
I
filled that one in and moved to the pit by the tree. As I dug down I thought
it looked kind of mixed. Then I got the thumbs up! I hit an ash layer and then the
use layer. The first thing out was a light grass green cone ink, cool! Then out
popped another cone in aqua, and another and another! I knew the green ink
would be the bottle of the day. I ended up with the green ink,5 aqua cones,2
barrel type inks,a Browns Jamaica Ginger and a milkglass lamp part. There was
also a bunch of broken pottery, and some unembossed bottles. I was tired, from
probing more than digging,so I called it a day.
Steve
I didn't
have a digicam, all I had was a disposable so I will have a couple more dig
pics in a few days.
Thumbs
up!
