Dave couldn't join us today as he has a "dumb job" and some family
obligations. Craig and I had decided to meet at a house that had burned and was recently razed. I had probed it earlier in the year, but hadn't been able to tell if it was dug or not. We popped open a test hole and sure enough it was dug. We moved to the next permission. I had seen these guys working on a house and stopped to ask if we could dig. The owner said it would be alright. I probed a spot in the corner that felt like it was all ash. Craig was in the other corner and said "check this out"! I went over and every time I stuck in the probe it was the  "clink" of glass. The only bad part was the water dripping off the probe. It was going to be a wet one! We spread the tarp and started shoveling. The first bottle out was a local blob beer an "E. Klinkert" Craig was happy that we were in a Racine pit. We started bailing water and had three buckets in a matter of minutes. I told Craig we should keep the water to refill the hole or we would run short of fill. We searched for some containers but came up empty. I suggested to borrow some garbage containers from someone who lived close by. Craig drove over to get the cans and while he was gone I pulled out an amber "Simon Gates" blob. I had never seen an amber one and actually didn't even know it existed. Craig said he heard of them but didn't have one. The pit ended up being a real chore but we had a nice amber blob and a few common local hutches. There were some other things but nothing spectacular. We dug a couple more holes at some different houses but they turned out to be bunk. Until next week.....
