It was already hotter than heck when we met up at 8am. Steve's friend
Joe was along. He will be illustrating our upcoming "Adventures of Dug and
Phil" cartoon. He wanted to experience what digging was about to have a
better idea on how to lay out the cartoon. Steve had some juicy knockers lined
up. I think he may have been a little early though. Some didn't come to the
door. Others just gave a "no" without much thought.
We decided to head for a left over tunnel job. It was a
deep one and in the direct sunlight. Luckily there was enough structure around
to stretch out a tarp for shade.
I don't think we could have done it without the tarp
The ground was drier than a popcorn fart. The high temps and
lack of rain has caused the lawns to completely burn out and the sod turn to
dust.
On the way down we started catching bits of shards and ash along
the one side of the shaft. Sure enough, there was a bonus pit. We came right
down in the middle of both of them. We had probed the crap out of this yard. It
is tough to believe we missed this pit, but I was not complaining. Just goes to
show if you don't find them the first time, doesn't mean they are not there.
The guys were pulling out some slick meds. Steve got a J.
Roemheld & co Chicago med on one of his turns. On my turn a bisque
doll head rolled out of the wall and on to floor. A little bit later a JSP
monogrammed, teal green beer did the same drop and roll. Last year we dug a pit
right by this one and got two of the same from it. Joe did get a intact doll
sized tea cup.

I wish I could say it got better from here. A couple more
slicks and some broken pottery and she was done. Steve tunneled over to the next
one and found some broken bits of a fancy blue glazed crock. But, this pit was
skinny on bottles save one Dr Cummings Vegetine.
